Athenry Lodge, which offers superb bed and breakfast accommodation in the Nelson region, is a beautifully presented, owner self-designed home set amid a beautiful, developing garden and 17 hectares of farmland. The Lodge, built of reinforced, rammed earth blocks, features extensive use of native timbers and offers open-plan living in the spacious lounge/kitchen area. Guests at our bed and breakfast accommodation can choose from a selection of boutique Nelson beers, wines or a smaller range of spirits and mixers from our house bar.
The beautifully arranged queen, twin and private loft rooms of our boutique bed and breakfast accommodation feature hand-quilted bedding, each with a unique musical theme. Various musical instruments are displayed throughout the living areas, which guests are welcome to take down and play. Each room also features its own en suite bathroom facilities including toiletries, robes and hair-dryers, and guests are welcome to make full use of the kitchen, dining and laundry facilities.
Athenry Lodge was named largely as a tribute to the owners' love of Irish music, culture and history. The famous ballad, 'The Fields of Athenry' was sung at the lodge's official opening in early 2004, when it was pointed out that due to the lodge's unique and durable construction method and materials it was destined to stand solid and proud on the Waimea Plains for many centuries. The lodge was constructed by the owners' son, builder Emerson Mytton, with dad Brett weighing in as chief assistant, adding greatly to the sense of achievement and pride the owners have in their high quality bed and breakfast accommodation premises.
