Athenry Lodge offers superbly comfortable boutique bed and breakfast accommodation that is unique to Nelson. Many of our visitors drive across either from the West Coast (we are about 3 hours comfortable driving from Westport), or Picton (around 2 hours). Athenry Lodge, boutique bed and breakfast is also about 5 - 6 hours north of Christchurch, with travellers able to choose either the East Coast route via Kaikoura and Blenheim, or through the centre of the South Island via the lovely naturally heated bathing pools at Maruia Springs.
Nelson is supremely located in the geographical centre of New Zealand, and is serviced by New Zealand's fourth busiest airport in terms of flight numbers. Air New Zealand and Origin Pacific are the main airlines plying the Nelson routes, with direct or indirect flights available several times daily from all major centres. Nelson is just 80 minutes by air from Auckland, 35 minutes from Wellington and 50 minutes from Christchurch, a springboard also for the ever-popular Queenstown, Wanaka and the wider Central Otago region.
Once you arrive in Nelson, Athenry Lodge, our boutique bed and breakfast, is about 15-20 minutes drive south. Simply take the Whakatu Drive motorway to Richmond, and proceed along the state highway for about 10km. Athenry Lodge is at the top of a bank which drops off down towards the Wairoa River. Due to Transit Highway regulations, guest entry is via Clover Rd, at the immediate bottom of the bank. Turn left if heading south from Richmond and take the first turn on the left - the Athenry Lodge sign will show the way. Then it is a 2-minute drive on a gravelled track through the Mytton's 17-hectare farmland to your boutique bed and breakfast facility at Athenry Lodge, Nelson.
